Wrong timing: Executive withdraws board candidacy | Insurance Business

Zurich Insurance Group, which will have its Annual General Meeting on April 04, has announced that one executive is no longer in the running for the insurer’s board.

Jasmin Staiblin, chief executive of energy firm Alpiq, has notified Zurich’s board of directors of her decision to withdraw her candidacy for election.

“She cited the timing of the Zurich appointment as conflicting with her current portfolio of duties, and expressed disappointment in not being able to join the Zurich board at this time,” said Zurich.

Meanwhile the board of directors, subject to the re-election and election by Zurich shareholders, will consist of chair Michel Liès, Joan Amble, Catherine Bessant, Dame Alison Carnwath, Christoph Franz, Jeffrey Hayman, Monica Mächler, Kishore Mahbubani, and David Nish.

Liès, former group chief executive of Swiss Re, will succeed Tom de Swaan.

“He brings a wealth of skill and insight gained from a very successful career in our sector, which, combined with his experience at the helm of an important Swiss company, make him the ideal next chairman,” said de Swaan previously, who had been chair since 2013. “In the fast-changing environment in which we operate, his intellect, deep grounding in insurance, and ability to deliver results will reinforce both the board and the business.

“I look forward to a smooth transition as we prepare for his election at the 2018 AGM.”
