The image of the uk programme of which the minister Barrette is inspired, the quebec program will include different steps (Step-Wise Care), which will go to terms and conditions less intensive up to individual psychotherapy.
For its part, England has asked the question on the effectiveness of various treatment modalities of its public program. In June 2017, the journal BMC Psychiatry has published the results of a government study on the public program of psychotherapy british called Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT).
Program not conclusive for half of the patients
This study represents a second evaluation of the regime british public since its implementation. It was also revealed that half of the patients who followed the program IAPT have not improved their situation. For some, it has even deteriorated. «It is of concern that half of the patients, regardless of the type of intervention, has not shown improvement,» said the researchers.
The IAPT began in England in 2008 and to this day access to its services to more than 900 000 people each year. The researchers analyzed data from 33 243 people treated for depression in 103 programs IAPT. Psychotherapy cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is the psychological intervention that the british programme recommends that as a first-line. When other treatments have failed, it may recommend counselling, or a combination of humanistic approaches and based on experience.
Two-thirds of patients analyzed were treated by CBT, and the other through counselling. In the entire program, only 2 % had received other forms of psychotherapies approved. Regardless of the treatment received, half of the patients saw their condition improve after following the program, or 50.1 per cent, while 46% remained stable, and 3.5 % have seen their condition worsen.
The taxpayers called in reinforcement
Prior to his deployment in 2008, the uk government had invested £ 33 million in the IAPT, or $ 55.6 million of canadian dollars (M$). It has to make additional investment of 110 million pounds in 2010 (185,3 M$) and 173 million pounds in 2011 (291,4$M).
The minister-Module provided for starting the program in québec by an investment of$ 35 Million. More than 600,000 people are expected to eventually have access to it annually.
